Cape baseball honors seniors and defeats Spartans

May 11, 2022

The Cape baseball Class of 2022 was honored with their families before they took to the diamond to defeat Saint Mark’s 6-2 May 10.

Josh Reinhold, Isaac Terhune, Brian Fleming, Nick Cox and Paris Mitchell each knocked in a run as the Vikings moved to 14-2 on the season. Justin Marsh was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Junior pitcher Nick Cox went six strong innings for the Vikings, striking out five while allowing four hits and walking one batter. Owen Daminger came in from the bullpen to throw the seventh inning.

“Nick did a fantastic job on the mound battling the wind, which can have a tremendous effect on pitches,” said Cape manager Ben Evick. “We played stellar defense, turning multiple double plays and recording some difficult outs. Offensively, Paris Mitchell remains extremely hot the last two days. [On May 9] he had a two-run single to help us get the win against a 16-1 Stephen Decatur team, and [May 10] he had a pair of hits and an RBI again. Justin Marsh had a great day at the plate with two hits and a double. We’ve been swinging the bats pretty well and working hard in practice. Our guys have each other’s backs and have been competing every day.”

Saint Mark’s senior Hayden Fauerbach was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Vikings travel to Sallies Thursday, May 12.
