Vikings collect 12 hits in win
April 9, 2021

Three Cape players collected multiple hits to lead the 4-0 Vikings to a 13-3 victory over Lake Forest at Chris Short Field April 8.

Justin Marsh went 3-for-3 with a double, sacrifice fly and three RBIs. Gage Joseph was 3-for-3 with a walk, a two-run homer and three runs scored. Hunter Rauch added a double and triple, and had two runs scored. Nick Cox also slammed a double in the game.

Junior right-hander Josh Reinhold picked up his second win of the season, throwing 4 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball with eight strikeouts. Austin Rhue came in to relieve Reinhold and picked up the last strikeout to end the game.

Tristian McCray had a single with two RBIs for Lake.

“Gage Joseph and Justin Marsh had great games at the plate,” said Cape head coach Ben Evick. “Gage hit a two-run blast over the scoreboard to blow the game open in the fifth. Hunter [Rauch] had a double and then a triple, in which the relay throw was mishandled so he ended up scoring on the play.

“We did a nice job driving fastballs and got ourselves into good counts by being patient at the plate. Base running was also a plus in the win, as we took every advantage of their mistakes. We remained aggressive and made good decisions. I’m proud of the way we played.”

The Vikings return to action at 4:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, when they take on Dover on the road.
