After running the floor and the clock in a 61-24 win against Mountain View High School from Virginia, the Vikings could not find their rhythm and dropped a heartbreaking 57-61 game to Broadneck High School of Maryland in the Beach Slam Classic at Cape Henlopen High School Dec. 28.
The Vikings liked the view on the top of the mountain, with senior Damian Robinson putting in 16 points to lead the home squad. Jameson Tingle added 14, and sophomore point guard Stephen Sivels scored 11.
“We executed tonight,” said Sivels. “We wanted to play Cape basketball and do what we are known for, like staying under control and not letting the pressure get to us. I think we did just that.”
“We really came to handle business,” said sophomore Geordan Downing, who knocked down seven. “We weren’t playing around during this game. We were mature and made good, fast decisions, and controlled the play right from the start.”
“We ran away with it tonight,” said Cape coach Steve Re. “We did a good job with our game plan. We did see some stuff that might hurt us on their film. But we shared the ball, switched well on defense and took them out of their rhythm. We kind of feasted on it. We played unselfish and played the right way.”
