Cape Bookmobile thanks Browseabout Books for donations

September 22, 2018

For the sixth summer, the Cape Henlopen School District Community Bookmobile made its rounds throughout the district delivering books to students. Over a five-week timespan, the Bookmobile traveled three days a week to high-need neighborhoods in the district and handed out books to students.

Principals, staff volunteers, the Cape Readiness Team and community member volunteers passed out a variety of books for students ranging in age from birth to middle school. Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach graciously donated new books for volunteers to hand out.

“Once again we are so grateful for the kindness that Browseabout Books has shown our district and our students,” said Donna Kolakowski, supervisor of elementary education. “Not only did they donate many new books for us to hand out, they also donated five backpacks full of school supplies to be given out to one lucky student at each elementary school.” Each student who visited the bookmobile had an opportunity to fill out a raffle ticket. Every school had a raffle winner who received a new backpack complete with supplies for the new school year.

“We also know that we wouldn’t have had such a successful summer if it wasn’t for the dedication of our volunteers,” Kolakowski said. “They took time out of their busy summer vacations to hand out over 2,000 books, so we certainly couldn’t have done it without any of them.”

The Cape Bookmobile collects new and lightly used books throughout the school year in both English and Spanish. Anyone interested in making a donation or volunteering for future bookmobile deliveries can contact Donna Kolakowski at donna.kolakowski@cape.k12.de.us
