Cape boys’ lacrosse beats Sussex Central 22-3

Vikings take on Sallies Friday night at Wesley

The learning curve is steep in the sport of lacrosse. The ball moves faster than any athlete, and throwing, catching and shooting aren’t easy – and neither is picking up ground balls.

Sussex Central couldn’t catch up to Cape on the field or its 45 years of history playing the sport. But the Golden Knights had their moments, scoring three times. Cape flowed players in and out of the lineup over all four periods for a 22-3 win to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Cape will play Salesianum at 8 p.m., Friday, April 12, at Wesley College as part of Dave Reynolds weekend.

“We have a lot of legs and a good attitude. Hopefully we can execute and play well,” said coach Mark’ D’Ambrogi looking toward the Salesianum game. “It will be a very good test for our guys. I know they won’t be intimidated.”

Cape’s goal scorers versus Sussex Central were Blake Gipko and Luke D’Ambrogi each with three; Greg Boyce, Gabe Best, Jack Dennis, JP Heid and Robbie Rickenbach each with two; and Adem Tekmen, Andre Currie, Will Bragg, Jaden Davis, Finbar Rihsko and Mikey Frederick with one goal apiece.

Dennis and Frederick each had two assists, while Hank D’Ambrogi, Davis and Rishko each had one.
