Cape Class of 2025 collects sock donations for those in need

March 30, 2022

During the first two weeks of March, the Cape Henlopen High School Class of 2025 officers organized a building-wide donation drive to help provide socks for the district’s students who are experiencing homeless. Collection boxes were set up around the school for students and staff to drop off donations. Altogether, the school collected more than 100 pairs of socks, varying in size and color.

“After reaching out to our homeless liaisons, we discovered that socks were an area of need for homeless students in our district,” said Addison Bowman, Class of 2025 president. “We thought that the collection of socks, would be a fun and easy way to make a difference for our fellow classmates, and with the success of this drive, we hope it’s something we can continue to do in the future.”

"In 2022 it is incredibly refreshing when our future leaders come to us with an idea that not only is selfless but also impactful in our community,” said Greg Berman, teacher and Class of 2025 co-advisor. “Who doesn’t like a fresh pair of socks? I couldn't be prouder to be a co-advisor of Cape Henlopen's amazing class of 2025.”

Cape Henlopen High School teacher Emily Walls is also a co-advisor for the Class of 2025. "This group of students is so motivated to make an impact. They are on their way to doing great things! We are so proud to be the class of 2025 advisors,” she said.

District Homeless Liaison Craig Warrington and Assistant Homeless Liaison Shawna Steinmann will oversee distribution of the socks to students in need. “We’re so grateful to Addison, the Class of 2025 officers, and to all of the students and staff who donated,” said Steinmann. “They are the kind of people who have a desire to change lives and lift others up. Their kindness and generosity are what makes Cape such an amazing place!”
