Cape district celebrates Cape High Secretary of Education scholars
Cape Henlopen School District recently announced that four of its graduating Cape Henlopen High School seniors have been named Secretary of Education Scholars by the Delaware Department of Education, one of the state’s highest honors for academic achievement and community involvement.
This prestigious recognition celebrates students who exemplify excellence in academics, leadership, and service. Honorees were nominated by district and school leaders and selected based on their outstanding accomplishments throughout their high school careers.
“These students represent the very best of Cape Henlopen High School,” said Kristin DeGregory, Cape High principal. “Their hard work, resilience, and commitment to both their education and their communities are truly inspiring. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and excited to see all that they will achieve in the future.”
The recognized students from Cape Henlopen High School include Anna Beck, Kathryn Costello, Darcy Crotty and Jenna Reinhold.
Beck is the lead editor for the Viking Ventures newspaper and has been a member of the Delaware Community Foundation Youth Philanthropy Board since ninth grade. In 2023, she was honored with the Carson Scholarship for her outstanding academic performance, integrity, and commitment to civic responsibility. With a weighted GPA of 4.214, Anna is pursuing a major in political science and international relations. She is the daughter of Eric and Sarah Beck of Lewes.
Costello is a passionate tennis player and was named most valuable player of the varsity team in 2023. She has also received the Academic All-Conference award for three consecutive years. A talented musician, Kathryn is an All-State Band member, serving as both the flute section leader and a drum major. Her accolades include the Superintendent's Commendation in 2022 and first place in the State DECA Innovation Plan competition in 2025. With a weighted GPA of 4.180, Kathryn intends to major in biology on a pre-medicine track. She is the daughter of Sean and Jennifer Costello of Lewes.
Crotty is actively involved in the Youth Leadership Program and serves as a member of the advisory board for Freeman Assists Communities with Extra Support. She is also a board member of the Youth Philanthropy Board, both of which are highly regarded organizations. An AP Scholar with Distinction and an Academic All-Conference cross-country athlete, Darcy has earned a weighted GPA of 4.206. She is the daughter of Amy and William Crotty of Lewes.
Reinhold is an intelligent, diligent and highly motivated student who consistently excels academically and athletically. She demonstrates remarkable balance between challenging coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments. She is a caring and compassionate leader, dedicated to helping others through her involvement in various clubs and as a swim coach. She has exceptional time management skills, maintaining excellence across multiple responsibilities, including a rigorous academic schedule and high-level athletic and extracurricular commitments. Jenna is ranked third in the class and has an impressive 4.21 cumulative grade point average.
The Cape High scholars were honored during a statewide ceremony hosted by the Delaware Department of Education on April 7, where they were recognized and celebrated alongside other top students from across the state.
