Cape district honors Rehoboth Elementary volunteer mentor
The Cape Henlopen School District recently recognized Emily Cunningham of Rehoboth Elementary School as the Mentor of the Month, honoring her five years of dedicated service supporting a student through the district’s mentoring programing, Connecting Generations.
Cunningham has been matched with her mentee since the student began kindergarten, building a strong and supportive relationship that has continued to grow over time. Throughout the past five years, the two have experienced both challenges and milestones together, strengthening a bond that reflects the lasting impact of consistent mentorship.
Amanda Grube, who nominated Cunningham for the recognition, highlighted her reliability and commitment to her mentee’s growth. “Emily is one of those mentors who truly defines consistency,” said Grube. “Her dedication has allowed her to build a meaningful relationship with her mentee over time, and her steady support has made a lasting difference.”
Cunningham’s long-term commitment illustrates the powerful role mentors play in helping students build confidence, develop positive connections and navigate their school experience with the support of a caring adult. “Mentors like Emily demonstrate the extraordinary difference a consistent, caring adult can make in a student’s life,” said Stephanie Mastrangelo, Cape district mentor coordinator. “Her five-year commitment to her mentee reflects the heart of our mentoring program, building trust, encouragement and meaningful relationships that help students grow both in and out of the classroom.”
Cunningham’s mentorship stands as a reminder of how a single caring adult can make a meaningful and lasting difference in a child’s life.
