The Cape girls’ flag football team moved to 1-4 in its inaugural season with a 33-13 loss to undefeated Delaware Military Academy Oct. 10 in Wilmington

Cape’s touchdowns were scored by Makenzie Kupa (50 yards) and Laura Lima (80 yards) off passes from quarterback Jerny Haines.

“I thought the game went very well,” said Cape coach Amanda Evans. “Especially going against a team like DMA who has had an undefeated season thus far. The girls were a little intimidated at first, but got out there and played their hearts out. Being that it’s our first year, we like to use each game as a guide and build from there. We’ve come a very long way from day one and it shows. Kudos to all of the girls, but a special kudos to Makenzie Kupa and Laura Lima for getting us on the board.”

Cape wide receiver Madison Mark was quick to praise the DMA squad.

"It was a lot of fun playing DMA,” she said. “They are a really good team with good sportsmanship. Even though we didn’t win, we still gave it our all and had a lot of fun while doing it, and we never gave up, which speaks a lot to our team spirit."

Senior Dilyla Rohls had four sacks from her rushing position.

“Overall, I think the game went pretty well,” said Rohls. “Going into it, we knew DMA was an undefeated team, so we knew we had to put in 100% right at the start. So far our season is going great. Although we only have one win, we continue to try our best at practices and focus on new plays. Kudos to my teammate Jerny Haines. She carries a huge responsibility being the quarterback on a new team, and she is very encouraging to her teammates.”

Cape travels to Saint Mark’s Wednesday, Oct. 15, to play William Penn.
