Cape football downs Saint Mark’s 33-3

Junior Jameson Tingle leads Vikings in season-opener
August 29, 2025

Cape junior quarterback Jameson Tingle threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more, as he led the Vikings to a 33-3 season-opening victory over Saint Mark’s Aug. 28 at Legends Stadium in Lewes.

Tingle completed nine of 14 pass attempts for 162 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for 117 yards on seven carries for two touchdowns.

“We’re still trying to find ourself as a team,” said coach Chip Knapp. “We have a lot of weapons. Jameson has the ability to spread things out, and we have to make the defense cover everyone. We can’t be one-dimensional. But it all starts with Jameson. He really stepped up, and I think we’ll see a lot of that this season. Hopefully we can build on that.”

Tingle said he’s seen flashes of what Cape is capable of throughout the preseason.

“When we put it all together, this is the result – a dominate team win,” he said.

Junior Oz Batson said a win in the season’s first game feels great.

“We are all on the same page,” he said. “We all contacted each other this morning and went over what we can do to win tonight. Everyone is buying in. I’m playing with a chip on my shoulder.”

Cape started the scoring with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Amari Jackson. The Vikings never looked back, as a stingy defense held the Spartans to just three points on the night.

Jackson had three catches for 63 yards and a score. Anthony Francis pulled in two Tingle passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Batson had nine yards receiving and a touchdown.

Ty Handy, Dell Richards, Robbie Payton, Mason Schaffer and Trey Batson led the defense. Sophomore Javy Morales-Roblero had two sacks. Navin Duffy and Jamar Beasley controlled the secondary with several pass breakups.

Placekicker Austin Tyndall had a notable first game, hitting three extra points while keeping the Spartans deep in their defensive zone on kickoffs.

The Vikings will host William Penn Friday, Sept. 5, in the season’s second week.
