Cape football holds awards banquet

The Cape Henlopen football team held its 2025 end-of-season awards banquet Feb. 9 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

The Vikings went 6-5, including an undefeated 5-0 record at Legends Stadium. 

The MVP Award was presented to junior quarterback Jameson Tingle.

The Viking Award and the Maxwell Club Award were presented to senior Dell Richards.

Senior Robbie Payton received the Defensive Player of the Year Award, while the Defensive Lineman of the Year Award went to sophomore Javier Morales.  

The Captain Award was presented to senior Trey Batson.

The Offensive Player of the Year Award went to Ty Handy, while the Offensive Lineman of the Year Award and the Sportsmanship Award went to senior Liam Ramsey.

The Legends Award was presented to senior Braden Wiswall.  

The Newcomer of the Year Award went to Drew Messick, while a second Newcomer of the Year Award went to Riley Baum.  

The Special Teams Player of the Year was presented to punter Navin Duffy.

Running backs coach Jaden Davis presents the Offensive Player of the Year Award to Ty Handy. Handy had 451 yards rushing and 238 yards receiving.
Varsity assistant coach Jason Hunt presents the Defensive Player of the Year Award to senior Robbie Payton. Payton was credited with 67 tackles in 2025.
Cape coach Chip Knapp presents the team MVP Award to junior Jameson Tingle. Tingle passed for 1,567 yards, rushed for 699 yards and scored 25 touchdowns in 2025.
Cape head coach Chip Knapp presents the Viking Award to senior Dell Richards. Richards had 38 receptions for 514 yards.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
