Lisa Emery stands at the Golden Gate Bridge, holding the Cape Gazette. Spanning 1.7 miles across the strait, the bridge connects San Francisco to Marin County. Its towers rise 746 feet above the water, and when it opened in 1937, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. The roadway sits 220 feet above the bay, supported by cables made of over 27,000 wires, each stretching more than 7,600 feet. Today, it carries millions of vehicles a year and remains one of the world’s most iconic landmarks.
