Cape Gazette readers explore Mediterranean history and culture
Cape Gazette readers Wendy and Steve Leddy, and Trisha and Marty Trucker enjoyed a Mediterranean Viking cruise that included a stop in Casablanca, Morocco. They had drinks and light fare at Rick’s Cafe, a recreation of the bar made famous by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the classic film “Casablanca." Rick’s Cafe Casablanca was developed by Kathy Kriger (1946–2018), a former attaché in Morocco. The restaurant is housed in a traditional Moroccan grand mansion with a central courtyard, built in 1930. Other highlights of the trip included flamenco dancers in Malaga, Spain; World War II tours in Malta; stops in Corsica and Algeria; a visit with Berbers in Tunisia; following in the footsteps of Van Gogh in France; and a stop at the Trevi Fountain in Rome, Italy.
