September 22, 2017

Gazette reader Maureen “Reen” McCaffrey  is a Nationally Certified American Sign Language Interpreter and Disability Specialist who recently traveled to China after being selected as one of two Nationally Certified American Sign Language Interpreters to join the 2017 China Disability Delegation with St. Cloud State University – Confucius Institute.  Reen’s selection was based on her specialization interpreting for people who are deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind, her diverse experience working with people who have disabilities and her educational qualifications. While in China she enjoyed interpreting at Beijing Normal University for Linguists and at the Beijing, China, American Embassy. She was employed as an American Sign Language Interpreter with Cape Henlopen School District for 10 years before she began working at the Delaware School for the Deaf. She has also been employed with the Children’s Beach House for the past 12 years. Here she is pictured with her Gazette at the Great Wall of China.
