Cape girls’ basketball falls to CR 56-43

February 5, 2018

The ’50s jazz vocalist Dinah Washington sang “What a Difference a Day Makes.” In Camden Feb. 2, the song could’ve been, “What a difference a half makes,” as the Vikings totally dominated the Riders in the first two quarters, going into the halftime break ahead 30-15, but Caesar Rodney reversed their fortunes by outscoring the Vikings 41-13 in the second half to garner a 56-43 Northern Division victory. The Vikings had previously defeated the Riders 39-35 Jan.16 at Cape.

“We played incredible offensively and defensively in the first half, and that led to our 15-point advantage at the half,” said Cape coach Lauren Carra. “The second-half downfall was on us. CR did nothing different offensively or defensively from what they did in the first. Their pressure was suffocating us and eventually wore us down.”

Lexi Watkins led the Vikings with 11 points, while Nya Mosley, Dania Cannon and Alia Marshall put in nine, eight and seven points, respectively.

Caesar Rodney was led by Kylie Kornegay-Lucas, who put 17 points on the scoreboard.

The Vikings traveled to St. Elizabeth High School Monday, Feb. 5; they return home Tuesday, Feb. 6, to play Lake Forest.
