Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 donates to help local veterans

October 7, 2024

The Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 Veterans Committee presented Frets4Vets with a scholarship check for $1,400 Sept. 3, to be used toward a 16-week program of guitar instruction for veterans diagnosed with PTSD and/or depression.

The veterans can participate in jam sessions with other students, and upon completion of the program, the student will be presented with a custom, handmade guitar.

The program objective is to create mental focus pathways in order to help reduce trigger events that prevent normal everyday activities. Over the past seven years, Frets4Vets founder Tom Baker has graduated 26 PTSD veterans/active-duty military members through the program, yet the greater Delmarva area still has a waiting list of 817 qualified individuals who wish to attend.

The Cape Henlopen Elks Veterans Committee regularly donates to the Frets4Vets program, as it is specifically designed to help local veterans focus their minds in a positive direction and prevent soldier suicide by teaching coping mechanisms through musical instrument instruction.
