Cape High School to present ‘The Little Mermaid’ March 7-10

March 4, 2019

Thursday through Sunday, March 7-10, Cape Henlopen High School theatre students will share their talents with the community with their rendition of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid.” The shows will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with an encore performance Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Cape Henlopen High School auditorium.

Based on Disney animated film, “The Little Mermaid” tells the tale of Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, who wishes to pursue her love of a human prince in the world above. She bargains with an evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs, but it comes with a great price - her voice. With the help of her friends from under the sea, Ariel must make the prince fall in love with her before it is too late and her voice is gone forever.

“This is going to be a really fun show and the kids have been working so hard in every aspect of the production,” said Sadie Andros, theatre teacher at Cape Henlopen High School. “Students have done everything from costuming each other, to constructing and painting props and set pieces. They even have hung and focused lights, made projections for the performance and will be running the sound boards and spotlights during the show. I couldn’t be more proud of the entire cast and production crew!”

The music for “The Little Mermaid” was written by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and composed by Alan Menken. Student musicians will be accompanying the cast in a live orchestra set-up. “The Little Mermaid is a classic,” continued Andros. “It’s truly a show for all ages, and we are very excited to share our hardwork with the community.”

Tickets for “The Little Mermaid” can be purchased at the door with cash or check and are $10 for those over 18 years of age. Anyone under the age of 18 can purchase a ticket for $5. All seating is general admission and will be granted on a first come, first serve basis. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to the showtime. Concessions will be available at the show.
