Cape honors retiring Facilities Supervisor Lenny Richardson
Retiring Cape Supervisor of Facilities Lenny Richardson was recognized for his years of service to the district at the June 10 school board meeting.
Superintendent Bob Fulton said the district looks to recruit the best teachers, administrators and people.
“And Lenny represents that type of person,” Fulton said. “He’s a good person, and he’s here for all the right reasons.”
Richardson began his career as a physical education teacher in the Christina School District, Fulton said. He then moved to Polytech where he was a teacher, coach, athletic director, administrator and assistant principal. After joining Cape nearly eight years ago as transportation supervisor, he became supervisor of facilities in 2017.
Fulton also noted that Richardson was a star athlete who played for Newark High’s state championship football and baseball teams, and was named East Coast Conference MVP as a senior on the University of Delaware baseball team. He was named to the Delaware Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Richardson said the public recognition made him a little uncomfortable.
“I was brought up that you work hard, and you shouldn’t be congratulated for doing your job,” Richardson said. “That’s what I was trying to do every day I came to work, and I worked with some wonderful people here.”
