Cape JROTC Raider Team excels in competition

Under the Leadership of Cadet Sgt. Blayze Trumbauer, the Cape Henlopen High School Army JROTC Raider Physical Fitness Team finished in first place overall in the Sussex Tech JROTC Raider Challenge at Sussex Technical High School Nov. 2.

The competition included eight JROTC Raider Teams from Delaware and Maryland high schools.

The full day of competition included a physical fitness test, a one-rope bridge, a first aid-litter carry event, and Humvee pull, and concluded with a 5-kilometer forced march.

The overall competition was won by Cape Henlopen High School. The Cape Cadets achieved first places in the first aid-litter carry event, 5K, and physical fitness.

The Cape Cadets achieved second place in the Humvee pull.

Cadet Samuel Kerstetter won honors with the best male physical fitness score for the event consisting of curl-ups, push-ups and a one-mile run.

The Cape Henlopen team consisted of Cadets Blayze Trumbauer, Spencer Grinder, Alan Marin-Quiroz, Zoe Peters, Lauren Melton, Diaviane Taft, Robert Fogarty, Shaniya Miller, Juliana Foote, Tyler Holt, Nolan Kerstetter, Samuel Kerstetter and Jonathin Leicy. The team was accompanied by their coach, Sgt. First Class Richard Hurt. Because of achievement in this and previous competitions, the Cape team has been invited to compete in the First State Military Academy competition at Clayton.
