Lewes Bus aims to make travel easier for local residents and visitors by offering daily round trips between the Lewes Transit Center and the Philadelphia International Airport.
Founder Olivia Riek said the idea came from her own struggles to find convenient transportation options. Riek previously lived in New York City, where she faced significant challenges traveling home to visit family in the Lewes area. With limited public transit choices and long drives for relatives, it became clear that better transportation services were needed.
“I would feel bad my parents had to drive almost four hours round trip just to pick me up,” said Riek. “I was like, ‘This is ridiculous.’ I was looking up any way to get home. There were literally no options.”
After completing extensive research and receiving feedback from the local community, Riek established the Lewes Bus. The shuttle departs from the Lewes Transit Center daily at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m., with return trips from Philadelphia International Airport at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Each one-way trip is priced at $65, with group discounts for parties of three or more bringing the fee down to $55 per person. A 10% discount is also available for veterans.
The service offers clean vans, USB ports, air conditioning, free internet connection, comfortable seating and a spacious interior to enhance the experience. Online booking is available at lewesbus.com/book.
Riek said the business was established solely to serve the local community. Though the current focus is on perfecting this specific route, Riek said she is always collecting feedback for potential future destinations.
“I am just really excited to serve the community more,” said Riek. “It’s just a long drive for a lot of people, especially when you also factor in the hassle of parking or asking a neighbor. This is a more affordable and convenient option for people.”
