Cape soccer hosts play day

16 teams battle in preseason scrimmages
September 3, 2021

The Cape soccer team hosted its annual play day at Champions Field and Legends Stadium Aug. 28, when 16 teams battled to sharpen their skills for the start of the 2021 season.

Teams included Archbishop Spalding, Brandywine, Caesar Rodney, Cape Henry Collegiate, Charter of Wilmington, Delbarton School, Delcastle, Indian River, Mt. St. Joseph, Salesianum, St. Georges Tech, St. Michael’s, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech and Worcester Prep. The teams battled in 80-minute games.

“We had a very productive week of training, making changes from the Parkside scrimmage,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “Those changes did not translate to the scrimmages Saturday. We are struggling right now. We are trying to figure out where our passion and leadership will come from. We have one more test before the regular season begins. I am hoping that our trip to New York will build chemistry.”

Cape will open the regular season Thursday, Sept. 9, when they host Delmar.
