Cape soccer makes good showing in scrimmage with Vikings

Squad scores four goals versus St. Elizabeth
August 23, 2017

The Cape Vikings soccer team matched up with the St. Elizabeth High School Vikings Aug. 19 for a game-situation scrimmage, and when the final horn sounded, the Cape squad was on top 4-0.

“We started off slow, but as we began to piece it together we established possession and took control of the match,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “We created multiple chances in the attacking third as the game wore on. Zack Gelof looked to be in midseason form, adding a goal from 30 yards out.”

Gelof scored twice in the scrimmage, and Bradley Seneus and Uly Slagle each tallied one.

Senior Connor Rasin, back from a serious ACL injury, impressed the veteran coach during the scrimmage.

”Connor really worked to solidify his role as one of our main target players,” Kilby said. “His leadership and communication skills are really taking us to new heights.”

Cape will host a 16-team play day Saturday, Aug. 26, then welcome a four-team scrimmage Friday, Sept. 1.

The Vikings will open their regular season Friday, Sept. 8, as they host Sussex Academy.
