The Cape soccer squad is practicing hard to get ready to open the 2019 season in shape in a tough Henlopen Conference. The Vikings finished the 2018 season at 12-3-1, falling to William Penn 4-1 in the opening round of the DIAA state tournament.
The senior class of Kevin Perez, Leo Hanley, Alan Marin, Luke Johnson, Eid Nouhra, Chris Gonzales and Quincy Copeland will be looked at to provide strong leadership and to fill the shoes of 2019 graduates Bradley Seneus, Kannex Camarco, Dane Palmer and Bibi Rodriguez.
“We have some good talent this season,” Johnson said. “A lot of good young players have come out. We’ll be pretty good, I think.”
“We lost four key seniors last year,” Copeland said. “But we have a great roster this year and we’ll have good players to take their place.”
Cape will host a play day Saturday, Aug. 24. Attending will be Archbishop Spalding, Brandywine, Caesar Rodney, Charter, Delcastle, Delmarva Christian, Gunston School, Indian River, Mount St. Joseph, Sallies, St. Georges, Sussex Central and Sussex Tech.
Tough competition this season will come from Caesar Rodney, Indian River, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech and Charter.
