The Cape swim teams dominated the pool Dec. 6, as both the boys’ and girls’ teams garnered Henlopen Conference victories over Polytech.
The girls’ team bounced back from a seven-point loss at St. Andrew’s Dec. 4 to swim past the Panthers 112-39. The Vikings won nine of 11 events.
Cape’s Amaya Daisey, Gianna Vayda, Lindsey Reynolds and Julie Heffernan won the 200 medley relay in 2:09. Reynolds followed with a 2:24 win in the 200 freestyle. Aya Daisey garnered a 2:29 victory in the 200 individual medley, while her sister Amaya Daisey took the 50 free in 27.16. Reynolds won the 100 fly with a time of 1:16, while Olivia Brozefsky won the 100 free in 1:10. Heidi Simmons took the 500 free in 6:34.
The team of Destiny Hayes, Erin Morrissey, Brozefsky and Aya Daisey won the 200 free relay with a time of 2:01. Stephanie Philcox took first in the 100 backstroke with a 1:24.
Polytech finally broke through the Cape wall with wins in the 100 breaststroke and 400 free relay.
The Vikings boys’ squad powered to a 105-57 win. They also defeated St. Andrew’s 91-79 Dec. 4.
Tanner Dade, Liam Leishear, Ryan Bixler and Marcus Gromofsky swam to a 1:54 win in the 200 medley. Gromofsky won the 200 free with a 2:05. Thomas Weeks than swam to a 2:13 win in the 200 individual medley before Dylan Kaplan won the 50 free with a 24:17, and Bixler won the 100 butterfly with a 1:02.
Poly took first in the 100 free, but Cape bounced back when Gromofsky won the 500 with a 5:48.
The team of Sam Schoenfeld, Aaron Senturk, Weeks and Kaplan took the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41. Polytech then won the 100 back and 100 breast, and the 400 free relay.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
