Task force created to examine auto insurance

The General Assembly has passed a concurrent resolution to create the Automobile Insurance Reform Task Force to examine auto insurance rates.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 111 tasks the group with the following objectives: suppress rising insurance costs, reform medical payment structures, and help residents and businesses keep more of their wages. SCR 111 aims to adapt state systems and standardize one of the largest drivers of auto insurance expenses: the cost of medical care after car accidents. This measure is intended to help ratepayers save money and mitigate the financial burden shouldered by low- and middle-income families. The task force also aims to provide proactive, data-driven reforms around climate adaptation.

Cool Spring Crossing on P&Z July 2 agenda

The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, at the County Administration Building in Georgetown.

The Cool Spring Crossing application will be considered at the meeting. Commissioners will consider amendments to the county’s future land-use map and comprehensive zoning map.

The developers are seeking two conditional uses related to the project. The first is to operate an educational facility within an MR-RPC, medium-density residential planned community zone on a 2.65-acre portion of the 194.17-acre property.

The second conditional use is for an assisted-living facility and medical offices on 13.86 acres.

In other business, the commission will consider the final subdivision and landscape plan for Wynford Preserve near Milton, and preliminary approval for Windscape Farms and Symphony Glen, a pair of neighboring cluster subdivisions near Milton.

During the public hearing portion of the meeting, the commission will hear a pitch for a conditional use for a general contractor and construction business with an office, showroom and storage on Clay Road outside Lewes. Another public hearing will be held for a general trade contracting business with office and storage on Pettyjohn Road near Prettyman Road outside Milton.
