CAPE for Tomorrow Club builds feral cat houses

July 1, 2018

This spring, students and friends of the CAPE for Tomorrow club (Compassion for Animals and Protecting the Environment) at Cape Henlopen High School teamed with the nonprofit Partners for Paws.

Together, they constructed nine feral cat houses for the organization to use. Feral cats have no human contact, or hardly any human contact. They live on the streets, and are very hard to catch and neuter. These houses provide shelter for feral cats in the rain, cold, and heat, and they help protect the cats from predators. They will also be monitored for cats who may need to be spayed or neutered. The houses are made from large storage bins with smaller styrofoam bins inside, insulated with hay. The entryways are six-inch-diameter holes.

Club members extend thanks to everyone who donated at their Winter WonderFest booth and made this project possible.

CAPE for Tomorrow also partners with the Nature Conservancy and participates in the horseshoe crab count for the Center for the Inland Bays. For more information, go to @capefortomorrow.wixsite.com.
