January 28, 2024

The Cape unified basketball team battled for four tough quarters to earn a well-deserved 55-50 victory over Polytech Jan. 25.

The Vikings move to 1-3 on the season.

The Vikings started out tough, taking a 13-6 first-quarter lead. They followed it up with a 27-17 halftime score. Cape added to its lead in the third quarter behind the six straight third-quarter points by Jerome Kochinsky.

Each team tallied 12 points in the fourth quarter to end the game with the Vikings taking the five-point win.

Sara Davis was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 12 points.

“It was unbelievable. I was very happy with my game today,” Davis said. “I really like playing on the Cape team and I love teammates. Scoring 12 points makes me feel great.”

“It feels awesome to get our first win of the season,” said senior guard Charlotte Maxwell.

“It feels good to get the win,” said senior Payton Lamson-Reich. “My shot was on today.”

“It was so much fun to play Polytech,” said Cape coach Katie Collick. “We had taken a couple of loses the last few weeks and we were ready to come out and play. Both teams were so nice and they helped each other out on the court. It was really great to see it unfold.”
