Cape unified football defeats Newark Charter 40-14

Vikings’ Senior Night set for Nov. 3
October 29, 2025

A little rain didn’t hinder the scoring prowess of the Cape unified flag football team, as it posted a 40-14 score on a tough Newark Charter squad Oct. 28 at Legends Stadium. The Vikings move to 5-2 on the season.

Cape senior Zane Richardson continued to be a scoring machine, racking up four touchdowns and a two-point conversion for the Vikings. He also threw a touchdown pass to Grant Conway.

Jaxson Holgerson threw a touchdown pass to Jaxon Benton. The duo teamed up again for a two-point conversion.

Austin Hastings was credited with two long receptions and runs for the Vikings.

“It was our biggest win in Cape’s unified flag football program history,” said coach Drew Messick. “Newark Charter won the states in 2023 and knocked us out of the playoffs the last couple of years. Hopefully the team realizes that we can compete with anyone.”

The Vikings host Middletown Monday, Nov. 3, for Senior Night.
