Cape senior Zane Richardson tallied six touchdowns to lead the Vikings to a 36-34 win over visiting over Seaford Oct. 21 at Cape’s Legends Stadium. The Vikings move to 3-2, while the Jays are 0-2.

The Vikings scored first when Grant Conway hit Richardson on a 25-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone. The PAT was stopped. Their second touchdown came on a pass from Jude Presler to Jaxon Benton. Next up, Richardson ran for his second of the game.

After a touchdown from the Jays, Harley Jones took a handoff from Jaxson Holgerson and ran protected from the Blue Jays’ defense and went 30 yards to make it 24-22.

Richardson struck twice again on a 25-yard run and a reception on a Conway-to-Richardson hook up.

Richardson also had two interceptions on defense, while Holgerson, Conway and Presler each pulled in two interceptions for the Vikings on Austin Hastings’ pressure deflections.

Jaxon Benton had two sacks for the Cape defense.

“This was a great team win,” said Cape coach Drew Messick. “We have back-to-back games next week. We need to play the way we did today, and hopefully we will get the wins. Zane Richardson was amazing on offense and defense today.”

“Our team played great team defense and offense,” said assistant coach Theresa McCloy. “Everyone had a hand in the win. We had a lot of first-year players in today, and they all stepped up.”

The Vikings travel to Appoquinmink Monday, Oct. 27 for a game against the 0-3 Jags.
