The Cape Henlopen High School field hockey team is back on top of the mountain after defeating Smyrna 1-0 in the Division I state championship Nov. 11 at Rullo Stadium at the University of Delaware.
Grace Wiggins scored the game’s only goal in the first quarter. Smyrna appeared to tie the game, but the goal was waved off.
Smyrna handed Cape its only loss of the season Sept. 14. The Eagles also defeated Cape in the 2022 state championship game. In 2021, Cape topped Smyrna in the finals.
In the Division II state championship game, Delmar defeated Newark Charter 6-0 to win its eighth straight title.
