Carl Henry Hastings, funny, loving spirit
Carl Henry Hastings, 57, of Millsboro left this world unexpectedly Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021. He was a loving and caring father, companion, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Even though a failing heart took him away from us, his loving heart has left a beacon of light for all who knew him.
Carl was born to Charles Henry Hastings and the late Wilma Marie Medley March 6, 1964. The cute, chubby-cheeked, mischievous little boy grew up in Bridgeville with his brothers and sisters. After graduating from Woodbridge High School in 1983, he held many jobs, but his most significant work experience was cleaning for JOB Construction in Bridgeville for 40 years. Carl was known for being meticulous and he was always quick to tidy his surroundings, whether it was his responsibility or not. He also worked for Huttig Building Products in Bridgeville for 17 years and Friedman’s Jewelers in Georgetown for seven years, where he built friendships that lasted for the rest of his life.
Carl was a fun-loving and outlandish man. Regardless of his ailments, he was never one to complain about how his body held back his will to live this life. His life was defined by his ability to build a relationship with anyone. He loved to talk, encourage others, and could always make people laugh and smile with his comedic spirit. That loving spirit will remain within each of our hearts forever.
Carl loved to sing and was a member of the Lifeway Church of God Praise and Worship team in Bridgeville for over 12 years. He enjoyed gardening, rooting for the Washington Football Team, and spending time with family and friends. Carl also loved animals, taking his 16-year-old Yorkie Shih Tzu named Hunter wherever he went.
Carl was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma, and brother Frank Edward Donovan. Carl is survived by his partner, Brian Barnes of Millsboro; his son, Carl Darrell Hastings Jones of Seaford, and his daughter, Pamela Dale of Ellendale. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Na’shae Jones, Tykee Frisby, Ta’mon Frisby, Ja’kai Jones, Da’miyah Jones, Raekwon Christopher Willey, Serenity Willey, and Gage Trice.
Carl is also survived by his siblings – brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Shirley Donovan of Seaford; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Wayne Pollard of Greenwood, Joan and Ted Waters of Clayton, Tina and Stan Busby of Greenwood; and brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Tammy Hastings of Milford. In addition, he had many special nieces and nephews along with extended family. Special acknowledgement to Christine Hastings (Walls), Angie Willey, Debora Marshall (Jones) and all the friends who provided tremendous amounts of love and support to Carl and family throughout the years.
Carl’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 29, at Central Worship, 14545 Sycamore Road, Laurel. Family and friends are welcome.
