Catholic Charities hosts free counselor training class Sept. 23
Catholic Charities Inc. will host a free certified alcohol and drug counselor training for interested professionals to spread the word that Recovery Benefits Everyone.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration sponsors National Recovery Month each September. To celebrate and support the work of recovery, Catholic Charities is offering a free course, An Overview of Addiction Treatment, from 9 a.m. to noon, Friday, Sept. 23, at its Kent County office, 2099 S. DuPont Highway, Dover.
It includes a review of traditional models of treatment, an introduction to addiction and brain chemistry, and an exploration of current treatment approaches. The Delaware Certification Board has approved this class for three credit hours.
Mark Coffey, MEd, CADC, LCDP, program manager of clinical services at Catholic Charities, will teach the class. Coffey has been certified since 1987 and has taught at St. Joseph’s University and Chestnut Hill University in addition to teaching CADC classes in Delaware for the past three years. He is a board member of the Delaware Association for Addiction Professionals.
Interested parties are urged to register early as seating is limited. Participants will receive certificates at the end of class.
