Celebrating America’s independence in 1993

July 1, 2025

It doesn’t get more Americana than Lewes’ annual Fourth of July celebrations. From the old-fashioned children’s games on Second Street to the afternoon boat parade in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and the early evening Doo-Dah Parade, the First Town in the First State knows how to celebrate the U.S. the right way. Joining these traditions more recently was the Go Fourth! fireworks show after dusk.

These photographs show how Lewes residents and visitors celebrated Independence Day in 1993. Much of it looks familiar, but the Doo-Dah Parade grown significantly over the last three decades.
