Charles K. Koones III, prominent Realtor

Charles K. Koones III, 80, husband, father, grandfather and great friend to many, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at his home in Chevy Chase, Md.

A lifelong resident of Washington, D.C. and Rehoboth Beach, Charley was the loving son of Charles Carr Koones and Violet Ledig; the stepson of Blix Koones; and the brother of Anthony Carr Koones. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes School and Georgetown Prep where he was president of The Yard and captain of the football team. He was a 1954 graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. Charley served in the U.S. Army from 1954-56 and was stationed in Munich, Germany.

Charley was the president of the Washington, D.C. real estate firm of Koones and Montgomery Inc. He was a member of the Washington Board of Realtors and the Kiwanis Club. He served on the town council of Henlopen Acres and he was a member of both the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and Congressional Country Club.

Charley met the love of his life, Jane Crowley, while still in high school. They were married while he was stationed in Germany and they enjoyed 57 wonderful years together. They raised six children and 14 grandchildren and their homes are filled with love and laughter.

Charley spent every summer of his life in Henlopen Acres, where he surrounded himself with his family and countless friends.

He is survived by his wife Jane; children Kristina and Danny Veirs, Karen Callahan, Katie and Law Sheats, Suzanne and Thomas Egan, Charles and Linda Koones and Mary Lynn and James Cabrera. He was Bo to loving grandchildren Lauren, DJ, Morgan, Katie, Colby, Shannon, Peter, Kaely, Jake, Charley, Hunter, Brendan, Nick and Caroline.

A funeral Mass will be held at Little Flower Church at noon, Thursday, Dec. 20. A viewing will be held immediately prior at 11 a.m. in the church. A private burial will take place in Rehoboth Beach Friday, Dec. 21.
