Charles W. Coursey, Nanticoke Tribe member

Charles W. Coursey of Seaford, went home to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, surrounded by friends and family in his home Tuesday evening, May 26, 2015. A local Nanticoke Native American of Oak Orchard, father and grandfather, he was loved my many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane Coursey; and his children: Charles Coursey; Jennifer Coursey; Celeste Jones and husband Michael; and Laura Hudson. In addition, his grandchildren: Chase Coursey, Vivian Mae Coursey, Chloe Mae Coursey, Schylar Jones and Derek Jones; and his brothers: Albert Butch Coursey, Marshall Sonny Coursey and Melvin Puddy Coursey.

Charles was born Jan. 20, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Charles and Cecelia Coursey of Oak Orchard. Charles was the youngest of five siblings. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by two siblings, Helen and John. He retired from the USDA where he worked as a research analyst. Charles was an avid horse lover, and a very devoted husband. He served his country faithfully in the U.. Navy.

Charles was a member of the Selbyville Assembly of God Church. He and his wife enjoyed a Nursing Home Ministry, singing and praising God with the elderly. He loved to share his passion for horses, and his love of the Lord. Charles loved to play drums and dance before the Lord in his native dress at the Nanticoke Powwow. He loved his children, and loved to watch them play sports and grow up to be successful. Charles only wanted the best for people, and worked hard up to the end to make a difference. He will truly be missed.

A public time of visitation and viewing will be held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro the evening of Monday, June 1, from 6 till 8 p.m. Additional calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 2. At 12:30 p.m. a funeral service and Celebration of His Life will be held with the Rev. LeRoy Weymouth officiating. Interment follows with Military Honors at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
