Charlie E. Plummer, devoted to family, community

Charlie E. Plummer, 93, of Ellendale, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at ChristianaCare Hospital. He was born March 8, 1932, to the late Henry R. and S. Catherine (Warrington) Plummer.  

Charlie dedicated his career to serving as an equipment supervisor at DelDOT in Georgetown. His work was characterized by his commitment to excellence and reliability, which earned him a respected place within the community.

A lifetime member of Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, Charlie was passionate about serving others, always willing to lend a hand when needed. He was also an active member of Ellendale United Methodist Church, where he participated eagerly.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Kathryn (Williams) Plummer, in 2017; and his siblings, Anna Mae King, Doris E. Hitchens, John H. Plummer and Virgil A. Plummer.

His family remembers him fondly as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon P. Reed (Charles); two grandchildren, Shana Reed and Chad Reed (Maryann); and five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Matthew, Reed, Adam and Ian.

Friends and family are invited to honor Charlie's life with a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at Ellendale United Methodist Church, 603 Main St., Ellendale, followed by a funeral service starting at 2 p.m. Following the service, interment will take place at Ellendale Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made to Ellendale Cemetery, 16934 Staytonville Road, Lincoln, DE 19960.

Charlie’s life was dedicated to his family and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
