Chauncey Sylvester ‘Chuck’ Draine, retired teacher

Chauncey Sylvester “Chuck” Draine, 80, passed away in the care of Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at 2:30 p.m.  Chuck was born July 7, 1938, the son of late Robert N. and Eunice Harmon in Millsboro.  He spent 30 years teaching history and social studies in the public schools of Cambridge, Md., Middletown and Washington, D.C.  He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He loved reading, theater, films, and was a member of the drama club at Delaware State College (now university).  He was jovial, thoughtful and had a great sense of humility.  He also loved sports, and was a Redskins fan.  He was totally unselfish, and appreciative of everything.  He did not ask much for himself.  His caregivers praised his demeanor.

He is survived by his brother, Robert G. Draine Sr. (Luvenia M.) of Millsboro; and his uncle Macklin Harmon (Marion) also of Millsboro.  He has four nephews: Wyatt Howell Sr. of Easton, Md., Delano G. Draine Sr. (Shelly) of Hampton, Va., Robert G. Draine Jr. of Freeland, Md., and Daniel J Veal III of Scottsdale, Ariz.  Also surviving are four great-nephews, and a great-great-niece.

A viewing and funeral service in Loving Memory Celebrating the Life of Chuck will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, at Harmony United Methodist Church, 27270 John J. Williams Highway, Millsboro. Friends may call starting at 11 a.m., for viewing and visitation.  The funeral service will begin at noon. The Rev. Charlotte Nichols will officiate.  Interment follows at the Harmony United Methodist Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Harmony United Methodist Church, PO Box 1435, Millsboro, DE  19966.
