CHEF reception highlights grant successes
The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation recently invited Friends of Cape members and member prospects to a Meet Our Friends event at the new Rehoboth Elementary School.
Teacher and student recipients of CHEF grants – which totaled over $25,000 during the 2018-19 school year – discussed how the funds inspired learning and provided them with the tools they need to excel.
CHEF is one of only two public school educational foundations in Delaware, and it is able to support unfunded and underfunded programs at a time when the state doesn’t provide funding for some educational programs. Friends of Cape help fund these programs, and the group has grown from 15 to 90 members during the last year.
Among the speakers were H.O. Brittingham science teachers Cathy Ward and Mark Morey, who started a robotics club for fifth-grade boys and girls. Earlier this year, the club attended the Vexiq World Championships in Louisville, Ky., with funding from CHEF and Tetra Tech, a business partner of the Cape Henlopen School District.
The Cape Chorale and Cape Henlopen High School jazz band, also CHEF grant recipients, performed at the reception, and Rehoboth Elementary School Principal Amanda Archambault conducted a tour of the new facility. Food was provided by SoDel Concepts restaurant group.
