Chevrolet dealers, M&T Bank celebrate USO Delaware’s 24th anniversary

Upon learning USO Delaware would be expanding its support of military heroes and their families with an additional location at the Delaware National Guard River Road Training Site, Jeff Townsend, owner of Townsend Brothers Chevrolet and a longtime USO supporter, rallied with Joe Yacyshyn of M&T Bank and four other Delaware Chevrolet dealers to combine their effort in sponsoring a Chevrolet Equinox to celebrate the anniversary and newest endeavor.
Townsend Brothers Chevrolet, M&T Bank, Diver Chevrolet, I.G. Burton, Porter Auto Group and Willis Chevrolet pooled their resources to purchase the Equinox, which was presented Thursday, March 12, at 11 a.m., at the 1450 South DuPont Highway Townsend Brothers Chevrolet Dover location.
Townsend said, “USO Delaware has a huge mission, especially in our state. Our military is much better off because of the support USO Delaware provides. When I heard about their need for a vehicle because of expanding, I took it upon myself to help secure one. The USO serves the whole state, not just Dover Air Force Base, and this vehicle will go a long way to making their job and outreach easier.”
USO Delaware celebrated its 24th anniversary March 10 with a legacy of service to an average 80,000 to 100,000 military members and their families annually with a wide array of programs and services. USO Delaware has a community center in the Dover Air Force Base Passenger Terminal and USO Delaware Lounge in the Charles C. Carson Mortuary, providing support to 436th AW, 512th AW and USCG Station Indian River Inlet.
They are now joined by USO Delaware at River Road supporting personnel in the Delaware National Guard along with U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Reserves in Delaware. The new facility will hold a grand opening later in 2015.
