Children’s author Jordan Saez returns to H.O. Brittingham

Bilingual book aims to teach children financial literacy
March 7, 2023

Once a teacher, always a teacher.

“Class! Class!” Jordan Saez said to a library full of chatty students.

“Yes! Yes!” the children said as their focus shifted to the former H.O. Brittingham teacher.

Saez returned to her old stomping grounds to read her second book, “Lincoln’s Big Adventure.” The book, written in English and Spanish, is about the journey of a five-dollar bill and all the different possible paths it can take. She hopes to begin teaching children financial literacy at a young age, and uses an entertaining method to deliver the message.

Saez’s first book, “The Last Day of School,” took a look at the memories created in school prior to the pandemic and remote learning. In her newest book, Saez animates the currency with cute nicknames that play off the people featured on the bills. The audience was captivated by the journey taken by Lincoln as he learns how powerful he can be when joined by his friends, or even on his own in certain situations.

Ever the educator, Saez asked students what they knew about saving money before and after her presentation. While she was speaking to a sharp bunch to begin with, the little learners showed big acumen in the post forum. Prior to the reading, answers were related to buying things like a Playstation 5 or airplanes, but after learning of Lincoln’s escapades, the responses had shifted to saving the money or donating to a special cause.

“Lincoln’s Big Adventure” and “The Last Day of School” are available for purchase on Amazon. Seemingly as busy as a bee, Saez released her third book, “Bear, Beaver, and Bee: Beaver Learns to Share,” on Amazon Feb. 28.
