Children’s Beach House recently welcomed its volunteers for an evening of celebration and appreciation for the time and energy they contribute in countless ways. The event honored around 40 friends of the beach house who show up faithfully to help the organization serve under-resourced children with communicative disabilities, either at its Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center in Lewes or its statewide youth development program.
“What you do strengthens Children’s Beach House, but it doesn’t stop there,” said Richard Garrett, CBH executive director. “Volunteerism strengthens the entire state of Delaware. Every child you mentor. Every event you support. Every phone call you answer. Every nail you drive. Every load of laundry you do. Every kid you teach how to swim. Every smile you put on a child’s face. Every hour you sit in a meeting, helping us navigate program needs, facility plans, financial decisions, or fundraising events, you are building a stronger, more compassionate community.”
Claire Weitz of Lewes was named CBH Volunteer of the Year. A retired obstetrician and former head of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center’s Division of Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Weitz has volunteered in various capacities with the organization for four years. Recently, she has dedicated her summers to providing campers in the CBH Youth Development Program with lifesaving swim lessons.
Founded in 1936, Children’s Beach House serves children statewide through early childhood education, after-school programming, residential camps and wrap-around services, helping children, families and communities build futures of hope and transformation.
