Claws Seafood hosts crab feast for DAFB Mortuary Affairs Operations

September 11, 2017

On Aug. 30, Claws Seafood House in Rehoboth Beach hosted military service members and private contractors from the Dover Air Force Base Mortuary Affairs Operations Division. About 75 attendees were treated to an afternoon of all-you-can-eat blue crabs with all the fixings.

Claws, a restaurant concept of Fins Hospitality Group, joined efforts with the Delaware USO to make the event come together, and USO council members Dave Clapp and Dave Repass were both in attendance. "After visiting the Mortuary Operations at the base, doing something like this was very important to me," says Fins Hospitality Group owner Jeff Hamer. The humbling experience was an eye-opener about the logistics that go into bringing the fallen brave home. The members of the Mortuary Affairs Division face an emotionally overwhelming mission, and the crab feast was meant to be a fun break from their intense day-to-day work.

"We appreciate all our service members, but these folks are faced with a unique and heart-wrenching task, so giving them a taste of Rehoboth summer fun is something we hoped they could look forward to and fondly remember," Hamer said.
