Clear Space musical theatre and acting camps continue July 15

July 9, 2019

Clear Space Theatre is offering its musical theatre and acting camp summer intensives. All sessions are held from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day at Clear Space Theatre’s air-conditioned, downtown Rehoboth Beach location.

Campers at each musical theatre camp session spend a full week creating and performing numbers from a Broadway musical. This performance-based experience includes group rehearsals and instruction in acting, dance and vocal technique.

Each week is full of challenging but attainable performing arts skills. Each session culminates in two free performances on the last day of camp, at 11 a.m. and noon. Intensives are led by David Button, Clear Space Theatre artistic director. Instructors include professional performers and educators.

Each musical theatre session is designed for specific grade levels.

“Peter Pan Jr.” for campers in fourth to sixth grades will be held Monday to Friday, July 15 to 19.

“West Side Story” school edition for campers in seventh to 12th grades is set for Monday, July 29 to Friday, Aug. 2

A musical theatre week that spans grade levels is set for Monday to Friday, Aug. 5 to 9, culminating in a production of “Once on This Island Jr.” Participation requires the recommendation of a current Clear Space arts instructor and an audition.

Clear Space Musical Director Melanie Bradley said, “I love watching the growth of our students from the first day of camp till the final performance. We take a skeleton of a show, and in four days the kids learn the music, choreography and dialogue to give it life. It’s rewarding to watch them gain confidence in what they’re doing as the week progresses. And that confidence usually translates into other areas of their lives. They take it with them.”

Acting camp, which focuses on acting technique and dramatic study, will be held Monday to Friday, July 22 to 26, and includes campers of all grade levels. Campers will produce “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” Participants are instructed in body awareness and physicality, voice and basic acting technique, and learn to work as an ensemble.

Children will remain on Clear Space Theatre property throughout the camp day, and cannot leave the premises for lunch or snack breaks. Meals and snacks are not included with tuition.

Tuition for each intensive is $375, and covers high-quality, professional instruction; tailored vocal arrangements and age-appropriate curricula; camp T-shirt and materials; and one student ticket to that camp week’s Wednesday Clear Space summer repertory performance plus a 20 percent discount for additional family member tickets to that performance.  For more information or to register, go to www.clearspacetheatre.org  or call 302-227-2270.
