Clear Space Theatre free Friday mornings begin July 12

July 9, 2019

The Clear Space Theatre Company announced it will offer free admission for 11 a.m. Friday performances by campers from its musical theatre and acting summer intensives. The camps are an extension of its long-running Broadway Bound program where students from first to 12th grades study the craft of theatre during five separate week-long camps held at the theater in downtown Rehoboth Beach.

Mirroring the rehearsal and production process of Clear Space’s own summer repertory season, students rehearse, create and perform a condensed version of a popular Broadway musical in just five days. Guided by the Clear Space faculty, students receive instruction in acting, dance and vocal technique.

Free Friday performances begin with Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” by first- to third-graders Friday, July 12.  “Peter Pan Jr.” will be performed by fourth- to sixth-graders July 19. Campers of all ages will perform “The Emperor’s New Clothes” July 26. Campers in seventh to 12th grades will perform “West Side Story” Aug. 2. Faculty-recommended students who have auditioned will perform “Once on This Island Jr.” Aug. 9.

“The summer intensives have infinite rewards for all involved – from the campers to the faculty,” said Wesley Paulson, executive director. “The students take such remarkable pride in their accomplishments over the course of the week. Because of the amount of information students have to absorb in only a few days, you can watch the transformation in their work on a daily basis.”

Clear Space is also offering a rotating trio of main stage productions through Labor Day weekend with “Mamma Mia,” Hello, Dolly!” and “The Wedding Singer.”

Delaware Comedy Theatre also presents The Late-r Night Show on select Saturday evenings following the main stage production. For a complete show schedule and to make reservations, go to www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org or call 302-227-2270.
