To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Col. David Hall Chapter hosted a reception Oct. 11 to honor veterans of the Vietnam War. Featured speakers included Susan Beachell, vice regent of the Delaware State Society; state Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes; and state Rep. Ruth Briggs King, R-Georgetown.
The Chapter’s Commemorative Events Committee Chair DiAnne Gatts described the DAR’s role as partners with the Department of Defense in the Vietnam War Commemoration project. In her remarks, Gatts noted the many Vietnam veterans who went on to serve as mentors and leaders in military and public service.
Each of the 25 honorees was individually presented a certificate of recognition for their service, a veteran’s flag pin and a scrolled poem. Refreshments were provided by chapter members, and cupcakes in the Vietnam colors of red, yellow and green were donated by Palate Cafe and Catering.
Shown at the ceremony are (l-r) Denise Clemons, chapter vice regent; George Jones, Vietnam veteran; Nancy Barlow, chapter regent; DiAnne Gatts, commemorative events chair; and Travis Sample, Vietnam veteran.
