Common sense, common courtesy go a long way

July 30, 2024

I write to express my concern and the lack of respect for and adherence to the rules and regulations by Delawareans as they pertain to travel and traffic in the Lewes-Rehoboth communities. All too often I witness vehicles with Delaware tags running stop signs, making right turns when there are clear signs posted not to, and blocking intersections, preventing traffic with the green light from legitimately entering the roadway.

Not only do the aforementioned examples violate the rules of the road and warrant action by local law enforcement authorities, they also send the message to all visitors from other states that it is OK and acceptable behavior in Delaware and specifically the Lewes-Rehoboth communities.

And lastly, when waiting in line for a traffic light to change, common courtesy is to not be on your phone; but to be alert for the light changing and to proceed expeditiously allowing as many vehicles to proceed through the intersection as possible. This action will alleviate some of the urgency to run the yellow/red light.

My friends, common sense and common courtesy go a long way!
