The City of Lewes is participating in the 2018 edition of Communities in Bloom in the International Challenge (medium) category, along with Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada; Killarney-Turtle Mountain, Manitoba, Canada; Jasper, Alberta, Canada; Novi Vinodolski, Croatia; and Stettler, Alberta, Canada.

The Communities in Bloom judges are Larry Hall from Buena Vista, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Bernadette Solon from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland. They will be evaluating the City of Lewes from Sunday to Tuesday, July 22 to 24. The City of Lewes reminds all businesses and residents to tidy up their properties before the judges arrive.

Communities in Bloom is a Canadian nonprofit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification, and to improving quality of life through community participation and a national challenge.

The national and international results will be announced in Strathcona County, Alberta, from Sept. 26 to 29, during the Symposium and Awards Ceremonies with the theme of Seeds for the Future.

To support the educational aspect of its activities, the organization established the Communities in Bloom Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to funding, developing, and disseminating education and awareness on the value, improvement, importance and sustainable development of green spaces and natural environment in Canada.

Within the context of climate change and environmental concerns, all those involved in the Communities in Bloom program can be proud of their efforts which provide real and meaningful environmental solutions, and benefit all of society.
