Community book club hosts local author Maribeth Fischer

May 30, 2025

Local writer Maribeth Fischer spoke with reading enthusiasts during a May 15 author talk at the Hawthorne community near Georgetown.

After reading a scene from “A Season of Perfect Happiness,” her most recent novel, Fischer told the story behind the story and discussed her writing process.

Many attendees asked questions that led to interesting discussions. Several said the book was a page-turner they could not put down.

Fischer’s novel tells the story of Claire 10 years after an unspeakable tragedy caused her to flee her hometown in Delaware. She has built a quiet, tidy life in Wisconsin and is finally finding joy with a new community of friends and family. But when a person from her past arrives, Claire’s worst mistake threatens her new life. If Claire chooses to share the parts of herself she has kept locked away for so long, will the family she has built still recognize her – and have a place for her?

Fischer, founder and executive director of the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild, teaches classes in novel writing and creative nonfiction.

The Hawthorne community has four book clubs whose leaders work together to sponsor quarterly author talks for their members. Talented local authors who are interested may contact Gale Deitch at gdeitch1@verizon.net.
