Cape Pop Warner fundraiser set May 19

Cape Henlopen Vikings Pop Warner program will host a Parents Night Out from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 19, at The Starboard in Dewey Beach. Admission is $40 per person and includes buffet, cash bar, raffles, pull-for-prize games and free fun for kids. Proceeds will benefit Cape Vikings Pop Warner athletes. CAT to host Roman Pictures Film Festival May 19-21

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will host the Roman Pictures Film Festival from Friday to Sunday, May 19 to 21, at the Cinema Art Theater near Lewes.

The festival features award-winning films from five of Roman Pictures’ 12 festivals and includes genres from action to romance.

The umbrella for all its festivals, the World Roman Pictures Network, aka WRPN.tv, is a division of the Roman Pictures production company. Its mission is to help award-winning filmmakers, screenplay writers and actors find a distributor or producer by broadcasting worldwide.

Films screenings include features from the Nature Without Borders Film Festival; “My Dearest Emily,” “Signals 2,” and “The Way Home,” features from the LGBTQ-Unbordered International film Festival; “Friday the 13th Vengeance 2: Bloodlines”; and “Accidental Truth UFO Revelations.”

The festival is free and open to the public but reservations must be made at wrpn.tv/Pages/Live_Festivals_Guide_May2023.html.

Genealogical society to meet May 20

The Sussex County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 20, at Lewes Public Library and via Zoom. The speaker is Rachel Frazier, Maryland Archives deputy director of reference services, who has 15 years of experience helping in-person and remote researchers solve their diverse genealogical and legal research questions. Lavender Fields to host multifamily yard sale May 20

The Delaware Multiple Myeloma Support Group and the the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware/Kenzie’s Krew will hold a multifamily yard sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, at Lavender Fields, 18863 Cool Spring Road, Milton. The rain date is Sunday, May 21. The Delaware Multiple Myeloma Support Group, affiliated with the International Myeloma Foundation, is a statewide nonprofit support group to raise awareness about multiple myeloma, a complex and often misdiagnosed cancer of the bone marrow that attacks and destroys bone. The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware is a statewide nonprofit supportive resource group advocating for the acceptance and understanding that allows individuals with Down syndrome to achieve the same level of access and opportunity as their peers. Paint Laurel Plein Air set May 20

In conjunction with the One Laurel, One Day community celebration, the 2nd Annual Paint Laurel Plein Air will begin at sunrise, Saturday, May 20.  Artists working in oil, acrylic, pastel or watercolor will be setting up their easels in Laurel’s parks, along its streets, and throughout the beautiful surrounding farms and natural areas to capture the essence of a spring day in western Sussex County. A number of award-winning landscape artists from throughout the region have registered to participate.

The finished pieces will be available to view during a public art walk and wet paint sale starting at 11:30 a.m. in Janosik Park. 

Laurel’s annual WaterColors community painting celebration will be held simultaneously May 20 in Janosik Park. This unique event offers an opportunity for art lovers of all ages to pick up a brush and help paint one of Laurel’s iconic watermelon harvest buses. To date, 10 buses have been painted under the artistic talents and guidance of local artist John Donato.

Paint Laurel Plein Air is co-organized and funded in part by the University of Delaware’s Sustainable Communities Initiative in collaboration with the Laurel Redevelopment Corporation. For more information, go to townoflaurel.net.

Rehoboth Beach Main Street seeks Cottage and Town Awards sponsors

Each year, Rehoboth Beach Main Street sponsors a program that celebrates the best construction in the following categories: Residential new construction, residential renovations, preservation or reconstructions of existing homes, residential landscape design, and commercial construction.

Anyone can nominate a property, including self-nominations from homeowners or businesses. The goal is to encourage and celebrate in-town projects that help preserve the unique nature of downtown Rehoboth Beach.

Rehoboth Beach Main Street is now seeking program sponsorships to underwrite the cost of the bronze plaques given to each winner. For more information, email dan@downtownrb.com

Nominations open with a kickoff event at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20, and all past winners are encouraged to attend.
