Del Tech lax coach honored

Dan Yearick, in his first year as head coach of the Delaware Tech men’s lacrosse team, was named 2024 National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to an undefeated season in league play. The team won the regional championship, advanced to the semifinals of the North Atlantic District Tournament, and placed five players on the All-Region Team, including Defensive Player of the Year.

“I cannot imagine a better group of young men to lead my first year as head coach. I love to coach because of student-athletes like them,” said Yearick. “I am extremely grateful for my entire coaching staff. They are, without a doubt, one of the best groups in the NJCAA.”

Yearick was the assistant coach/offensive coordinator at Delaware Tech for two seasons before assuming the role of head coach in August.

“As the head coach, I have the opportunity to positively impact our players by not only mentoring and guiding them in their athletic pursuits, but also as a student and person,” said Yearick. “It’s important I give back to our local student-athletes because I used to be one of them, and many people helped me have a successful experience.”

Prior to coming to Delaware Tech, Yearick served as head coach of Wilmington Christian High School, the Bucks Lacrosse club program, and the Coastal Lacrosse club program.

Yearick is a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, and in 2005 was named an all-conference and all-state player, the Delaware High School Player of the Year, a United States Lacrosse All-American, and the Delaware representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes national team. He played college lacrosse at Mount St. Mary’s University.
